Life in Japan - ever wondered why the sun is red on the Japanese flag?

That's why - sometimes it really is red. Another minute earlier on the scene and I would have nailed this shot without the clouds obscuring the sun.

i like the could effect actually - cool shot. what part of japan? i'm now in iwakuni, having fun dodging military types and eating lots of rice. visited two schools and met lots of great and highly enthusiastic kids!

BB - I'm up in SHiga, just north of Kyoto. It's starting to get get cold round here now. Just in the course of a week whole valleys have changed from green to red. More photos to follow if I get a couple of free hours to resize and upload them... How long are you here for mate?

K - I must admit I am quite pleased with it anyway. Just bought a new camera! A 6 by 9cm medium formatter. A fujifilm point and shoot viewfinder. Nice and portable, with a mechanical system inside to best combat the minus ten to fifteen degree temps.
